Fast and Furious gave us fast cars that had been designed to go the extra mile with special implemented features. Top Gun consisted of fast planes soaring through the air with dedicated yet cocky pilots. Combine the two and you have Kill Speed , a new action film with aeroplanes that have been designed to soar at incredible speeds with overconfident pilots that have the technical know how to push the planes to their limits.
Staring ex-WWE heavyweight champion Goldberg, Andrew Keegan, Brandon Quinn and Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, the movie centres on three young, wiseass aviators known as ‘The Fly Boys’, who spend all their time chasing the Hollywood lifestyle; girls, parties and cash. Transporting crystal-meth across the Mexico boarder into California funds this dreamy way of life. When they catch the attention of the FBI, the battle turns into Cartel vs. government, which one will come out victorious?
Overall the movie is pretty well structured and enjoyable to watch. Casting wise, there is no big shot leading protagonist, but the three main roles portrayed by Carter, Keegan and Quinn are carried out with passion, an eagerness and youthful presence. The music, particularly at points where the planes are moving at top speed, suit the mood particularly well; there is even a Nick Carter contribution within one of these scenes. The narrative is fairly well thought out with some surprises and the odd explosion. There are some good shots within the framing of the movie, such as the face on views of the pilots when they are soaring through the air in the planes.
Generally the movie is well rounded and although something as loud as Kill Speed would likely have been better suited on a larger screen due to the amount of action and fast planes, as it is not as high-tech as some of the more recent releases, the straight to DVD release does seem more appropriate. However it is just as enjoyable on a straight to DVD release and will be great addition to the DVD collection of anyone into fast planes and the thought of government vs. cartel.
