‘The LLGFF has been a cultural and social highlight of London’s LGBT calendar for 25 years and a welcome annual fixture for film fans of all orientations.’ Time Out

The BFI today announces that the BFI London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival (LLGFF) will be held in spring 2012, marking the 26th year for the longest running queer film event in the UK. Following a review of the festival completed since the 2011 edition, it is also confirmed today that the festival continues as a key event in the BFI’s exhibition activities. Dates for the festival are still to be set, but the organisers aim to increase the length from this year’s six days, and to present a diverse selection of new international cinema and live events, all held at BFI Southbank.

Industry services for delegates from the UK and abroad will also be back for 2012, with The Blue Room at BFI Southbank available for the duration of the festival. With wi-fi facilities, rights information, a press centre, meeting place and the popular screening room for online viewing for anyone from buyers and sales agents to programmers from festivals and independent cinemas.

This year’s 25th LLGFF opened with Greg Arraki’s apocalyptic Kaboom and closed with a rom-com with a difference The Four-Faced Liar, directed by newcomer Jacob Chase. The record-breaking seat occupancy of 89% across the festival period meant the screens of BFI Southbank had never been busier. Fortunately, for those people who missed out on a ticket, there is the opportunity to catch several of the most popular films in cinemas and on DVD. Kaboom, Heartbeats, The Four-Faced Liar, Going South, Man at Bath, Unhappy Birthday, The Owls + Hooters and A Marine Story are all available on DVD with Break My Fall and We Were Here due out later this summer. The Night Watch (Sarah Walters) will be broadcast on BBC2 in July.
