‘THE LION KING 3D’ ROARS INTO THE UK WITH £2.8 MILLION ACROSS OPENING WEEKEND
The Lion King 3D introduced the Circle of Life to whole new generation as Disney’s epic animation opened to a mighty £2.8 million across UK cinemas this weekend. This makes it the highest opening weekend for a re-issue for 14 years – since the 1997 re-release of Star Wars IV: A New Hope . This has helped bring the The Lion King 3D total global box office to date to $114.1M and with more markets yet to open to The Lion King is set to roar even louder over the coming days.
The Pride of Disney, The Lion King 3D , has now joined an elite list of highest grossing films of all time, which includes Titanic, Avatar, Star Wars and Disney Pixar’s Toy Story 3. The Lion King already holds pride of place as the third highest grossing animated film of all time, the highest grossing traditional hand-drawn animated film of all time and the highest grossing film for Walt Disney Animation Studios.
The film’s release in theatres allows millions of fans, old and new, to visit Pride Rock in all its 3D splendour as one of Disney’s best loved animations proved that it is still The King.
