This season the Shoreditch cinema and arts centre presents an exciting programme of unique film events bringing together everything from Bollywood films and dance to a night of Ennio Morricone’s Italian cult film scores from 1968-72.
Arts programmer Oliver Carruthers says as an arts centre and cinema we have been linking our film and wider arts and culture programme for many years and have found a real love of events that blur the lines between different art forms.
“Londoners are spoilt for choice in accessing incredible arts and culture, so we are continuing to team up with artists to present truly unique events which introduce people to something they may never have thought of seeing before.”
“Our main event space allows us to present films with other performances whether it be music, dance or discussion and this season we are really proud of our exciting programme of film events,” says Oliver
On 14 January we host Making Tracks, a groundbreaking short-film event that offers new and established filmmakers the chance to have their work re-scored by a live band. In this regular event, Whirlygig Cinema presents a programme of visually stimulating shorts alongside brand new scores performed live by The Cabinet of Living Cinema.
On 4 February imagine a forgotten world of Bollywood. Bollywood Bitesized has taken the very best bits of Bollywood – from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s – and invites you to experience them anew. You will be transported back to the heyday of Bollywood cinema where you, a member of Bombay high society, are invited to the most exclusive party in town.
In a fusion of live music and cinema, f’eatre explore the psychedelic lounge trip of Ennio Morricone’s Italian cult film scores of 1968-72. At this special Valentine’s event, Morricone in Love, expect a triptastic mix of hypnotic jazz rhythms, bossa beats, soaring soprano and avant-garde expressionism – all to a stunning backdrop of the original film visuals.
Another independent film highlight of the season is the January installment of our monthly documentary programme presented by DocHouse. On 26 January join the cast and crew for the sneak preview of Sonny Rollins: Beyond the Notes, which follows the extraordinary life of the greatest saxophone players in the world.
