Close-Up Film is looking for new writers to join its writing team. We wish to expand our coverage of less mainstream titles, plus classic, cult & world cinema. This is NOT just about reviewing films – we are looking for people who can analyse a film, research its background and suggest or create supporting features – in short, someone who lives and breathes film.
We are looking for:
- excellent writing skills
- a good knowledge and understanding of film
- a passion for your subject
- reliability and ability to work to a tight deadline
Typically, you might be a film studies student or graduate, a filmmaker, a junior journalist looking to specialise, or a keen cinephile! However, as long as you have the above four requirements, we want to hear from you, from wherever your location.
The positions are unpaid but we will cover agreed expenses, plus the real perk is that we do provide access to press screenings, press conferences, festivals & other events, plus DVDs and books to review. We can also set up one-to-one interviews with leading filmmakers and actors. This provides an excellent first step in a film journalism career and we provide training and support along the way.
To apply please email editor Jean Lynch: jeanl@close-upfilm.com, with the subject “New Writer”, saying why you wish to apply and attach a sample or provide links to your writing.
We look forward to hearing from you.
