Out to rent and own on DVD 11th June
The huge international box-office hit Taiheiyou no kiseki: fokkusu to yobareta otoko (Miracle in the Pacific: The Man They Called The Fox) is to be released in the UK. Based on real events, BATTLE OF THE PACIFIC tells the extraordinary story of the dramatic fall of rogue Captain Sakae Oba during the end of World War II and will be available to rent and own on DVD from 11th June (RRP £12.99).
Captain Oba was the leader of the last remaining Japanese unit on the fallen island of Saipan. He and his small group of men went into hiding and carried on fighting long after their Emperor had surrendered.
Masterfully balancing the guerrilla campaign of Oba’s loyalist soldiers with the U.S. mission to drive him out by using two completely independent filming units – a technique not seen since the making of Tora! Tora! Tora!, director Hideyuki Hirayama manages to perfectly capture the mind-set of the Japanese people as they come to terms with their unthinkable defeat in this sensational new war film.
Based on the book Oba, The Last Samurai by Don Jones, a US Marine who survived the attack on Pearl Harbour and was actually ambushed by Oba and his men BATTLE OF THE PACIFIC is a war film not to be missed.
