#hcd2012
Saturday 1st September 2012
So how do you take part? Participation is easy. All you need to do is invite your guests, screen your ideal line up of cinematic gems and share your experience with the rest of the country, either by tweeting, blogging or uploading photos, it’s entirely up to you. Tell the world about your favourite films, delightful double-bills, creepy curios and trashy trailers. Turn your home into your dream cinema for the benefit of your nearest and dearest. High art or guilty pleasures, all notions of good and bad taste are out the window and it doesn’t matter whether you set up a projector in your garden or crowd round a laptop in your bedroom, when it comes to your event what we’re most interested in is what makes it special to you. Share with your friends the films that have changed your life and that will hopefully change theirs too!
But why stop there? For those of you feeling particularly adventurous why not turn this into an experience to remember by hosting your own film themed cocktail party, serve Tarkovskys instead of White Russians. Fancy dress? Maybe it’s time to dust off that old cane, fake moustache and bowler hat? Or for those who pride themselves on their culinary prowess why not knock up a few When Harry Met Sally Pastrami sandwiches with a side dish of Fried Green Tomatoes as the perfect accompaniment to your night’s entertainment.
Stuck for ideas though? No worries. MovieMail, the online DVD/Blu-ray retailer, are providing top-notch recommendations and the opportunity to find films screening as part of the Scala Beyond season, whilst Film4 will be getting involved with the action by both promoting the day online and scheduling a Freaky Futures night, including Terry Gilliam’s Brazil and Mike Judge’s cult comedy Idiocracy.
Help spread the word about what Scala Beyond hopes will become an annual celebration of communal film watching. Tweet along with your events, post photos and videos; let the world know about the simple gratifying pleasure of watching your favourite films with the people you love. So what are you waiting for… select your films, invite your friends and let the show begin!
