Joss Whedon says Marvel TV has complicated the MCU
While Marvel TV might currently be flushed with the success of Daredevil (newly awarded a second series), the studio’s success across multiple formats is not without its issues, with Joss Whedon suggesting that the small-screen storylines have further complicated things for the MCU.
With keeping track of the various timelines and overlapping continuities of the MCU already an arduous task for Whedon and co., the director has suggested that Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., et al has made that job even harder. “I think actually the movie people were a little bit cross about the TV show,” he tells IGN. “They were sort of like ‘Well you can have this but not this. And this but not that.’”
“It’s complicated enough as it is without me adding another layer of complication. We also created a TV show called S.H.I.E.L.D. right before they made a movie where they destroyed S.H.I.E.L.D.. So everybody’s having a GREAT time!”
You can certainly see Whedon’s point, particularly when the MCU requires so much plate-spinning as it is. Still, when the standard of TV show is as strong as Daredevil, we don’t hear too many viewers complaining…
