Legend Trailer Treat For Tom Hardy Fans
Mad Max star plays both the Kray Twins
Tom Hardy fans prepare! The trailer for Legend, the true story of the Kray twins, has arrived online, with Hardy as both Ronnie and Reggie Kray.
Set in London in the fifties & sixties, Britain’s most notorious gangsters get something of a Hollywood makeover, being directed and written by Brian Helgeland, whose hand was behind the acclaimed intense crime thrillers, L.A. Confidential (1997) and Mystic River (2003).
Previous screen outings for the twins – most memorably portrayed by Gary & Martin Kemp in 1990 – have down-played the glamour of the mob life, the emphasis being on their working class roots, the seediness of their chosen “profession”, the incessant violence and the effect their lifestyle had on others around them, notably Reggie’s tragic wife, Frances.
The Twins Who Ruled A City
The new trailer, which has just appeared online from StudioCanal, allows a guilty glimpse into the glitz – the sharp suits, the bright lights, the plush hotels, the atmospheric clubs – of ‘the twins who ruled a city’. This was London in the swinging sixties, after all, and although the Kray Twins have gone down in history as violent, dangerous criminals, at the time they were treated more like celebrities, socialising with the rich and famous.
LEGEND is less kitchen sink and more epic drama, keeping the grittiness intact but with the look and feel of such legendary gangster movies as The Godfather, Casino and Once Upon A Time In America, all of which have transcended their genre to become some of the greatest films ever made.
The film also stars Emily Browning, Taron Egerton. Christopher Eccleston, David Thewlis, Tara Fitzgerald, Aneurin Barnard and Chazz Palminteri.
LEGEND releases into UK cinemas 11th September, 2015.
