CSI: The Finale (15) | Home Ents Review

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was first aired on our television screens back in 2000 and went on for fifteen years, concluding last year after fifteen successful seasons and creating three spin off TV shows (CSI: Miami, CSI: New York, CSI: Cyber). There is no better way to say goodbye to the cast than a feature length episode that brings back a host of familiar faces and puts a full stop at the end of the CSI story once and for all.

Immortality is the name given to this feature length episode that revolves around multiple bomb explosions in a Las Vegas Casino owned by none other than FBI Agent Catherine Willows (Helgenberger). She returns from LA for the case and along with the casino’s security officer, former LVPD Captain Jim Brass (Guilfoyle), the pair are reunited with the current CSI Grave Shift team D.B Russell (Danson), Sara Sidle (Fox), Greg Sanders (Szmanda) and Morgan Brody (Elisabeth Harnois) to solve the case. When a familiar face turns up as a suspect, former CSI Gil Grissom (Peterson) is invited back to aid in solving the case, and of course carrying out one of his crazy experiments along the way.

As the episode comes to an end there are several elements tied neatly up in a bow; D.B Russell decides it is time for him to head east (to CSI Cyber) and pursue new endeavors; Sara applies for the CSI Director position, Catherine expresses her interest to return to Las Vegas and rejoin the team working alongside her daughter in the lab and what in fact happened to Finlay after her vicious beating in the season fifteen finale. It is when Sara and Grissom finally work out their on and off again relationship that the series truly comes to a peaceful end. The only downside to this feature was the lack of Nick Stokes (George Eads). If he had been present in this concluding feature then the entire team would have been reunited for one last case before all returning to their new lives.

Special Features on this DVD include audio commentary, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: Case Closed and CSI: Signs Off as a way for the cast to say goodbye. There are also several deleted and extended scenes, some of which would have actually been beneficial in the feature such as D.B at Finlay’s grave and Sara’s first assignment hand out.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation pathed the way for crime shows on television and the New York and Miami spin offs were just as remarkable and in depth as the original. With the advances in technology there have been over recent years there is no wonder CSI Cyber was the next development in the CSI franchise and here is hoping that it is as remarkable as the franchise started.
