FilmTiki.com - Austrian start-up launches international online platform for filmmakers
www.FilmTiki.com, an international online platform for advice for the independent film scene was launched last week. With an innovative idea and expertise in the film industry, the Vienna-based start-up enables filmmakers from around the world to use cutting-edge strategies to promote and distribute their films.
Movie marketing expert and founder Iris Lamprecht and her 10-member team is responding to the challenges of the rapidly changing film industry. With Web 2.0 applications revolutionising the film industry, there is still a lack of innovative sales strategies for filmmakers. While FilmTiki does provide advice on how filmmakers can harness platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, iTunes and Amazon Unbox to reach an international audience online, the unique strength of FilmTiki is that it teaches filmmakers the best way to combine use of these online film platforms with traditional sales and marketing channels.
On the primary idea behind the project, founder Iris Lamprecht says "Many films will only screen in small festivals or only find national distribution though their market potential is much greater. Unfortunately a lack of resources often means that many movies miss their potential international audience. FilmTiki is an ambitious project which strives to empower filmmakers to reach their audience via new channels, and therefore allow audiences to see new films which are outside mainstream cinema.”
At the core of FilmTiki is a diagnostic tool for determining the best online and offline marketing and distribution channels for a specific film project. The subscription-based tool generates a specific marketing and sales strategy based on details provided by a filmmaker on their film. This dramatically cuts down the amount of time a filmmaker needs to spend researching appropriate channels. FilmTiki also provides a cost-effective way for filmmakers to move forward with getting their film to an audience, particularly in the current economic climate.
The English-language portal also offers a wiki, where film industry experts share and exchange knowledge. The FilmTiki team share their knowledge and latest industry developments in the FilmTiki blog, as well as across a number of social networks including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. In addition, video interviews with filmmakers will give users an insight into the daily work and the views of key industry players.
