News feature by Joyce Dundas

Future Shorts, the distributor and short film consultant, and its larger sister unit Future Cinema, are hosting Secret Cinema, a series of site specific film screenings. The first screening took place in London on Sunday December 16 at 7.30pm with Gus Van Sant's new film Paranoid Park in London and the event was a sell-out. The tour will now travel to six cities around the UK.

Fabien Riggall, the founder and director of Secret Cinema, says the events will be a monthly gathering of all those that love stimulating, challenging and groundbreaking cinema. "The internet is changing the way we watch films. Secret Cinema changes where we watch films," he adds.

The location of the free screening is revealed on the morning of the event to those who have signed up on the website www.secretcinema.org and a clue will also be given about what film will be shown.

These original events aim to put some mystery and excitement back into cinema by hosting the monthly screenings of films in secret and showing them at locations reflecting the theme of the film. These live cinematic experiences will incorporate surprise rescores, special guests and live installations.

The locations will vary with each film and could be anything from a five-star hotel's car park to a city farm. There are also plans to use a derelict theatre, a rooftop and even a graveyard. The films will be a combination of special previews, classics and cult favourites. Paranoid Park was screened underneath the railway arches at London Bridge with over 300 people attending and 20 skateboarders entertaining the audience.

Secret Cinema will host monthly events in London, Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast from February 2008.
