HALLOWEEN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 3 (15)

FRI 6 - MON 9 JAN

The edgiest film festival in the UK, punk-rock in its outlook and uncompromising in its vision, is bringing together the best in short film and music over four days of screenings and multi-media mayhem. Beware of the projector with teeth.

The Festival's third year finds itself at that tricky third-album time! Halloween has expanded to include screenings and events at both the Curzon Soho and the ICA.

Curzon Soho will play host to six themed screenings of the best in new short films on Friday and Saturday; the cornerstone of Halloween has always been the imaginative and challenging quality of its programming and the third instalment will be no exception. On Monday there is an Award Winners' screening to coincide with Artrocker's photography exhibition launch and a Resonance FM radio show live from the Mezzanine bar.

FRI 6 JAN 6.00PM

NEW SHORTS: LONDON LIVES

Our fair city, in all it's glory. Including the TIME OUT AWARD FOR BEST LONDON FILM. The programme includes a varied selection, including the powerful refugee dramas NON PEOPLE and THE PASSENGER, a wry look at Japanese tourists in 20/20, a damning comment on racism and homophobia in ATTACK! and a tender love story in GIRLFRIEND IN A KIMONO. Plus time travel shenanigans in Martin Pickles sweet film shot on 1800's cameras, and music by Gravenhurst in the moving LUNCHBREAK.

FRI 6 JAN 9.00PM

NEW SHORTS: FUNNY SHIT

Exactly what it says on the tin - new shorts with a smile. A chance to see the outstanding collaboration between illustration superstar David Shrigley and award winning animator Chris Shepherd in WHO I AM AND WHAT I WANT, based on Shrigley's best-selling 'comic', plus blow-up doll shenanigans in WRONG, and what really happen between Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe in THE MAKING OF GLADIATOR.

FRI 6 JAN 11.00PM

NEW SHORTS: LATE NIGHT FORTEAN

Are you ready for weird visions and strange shenanigans from the unexplained to the creepy? The Fortean Times, the monthly magazine of strange phenomena, curiosities, prodigies, and portents, hosts this screening with an Award for the film most fitting the Fortean ethos. A selection of new short filmsfrom stories about poltergeists, Norfolk Black Dogs (TO HIS KNEES HE FELL), witches (ROLLY DIAL'S DEFINING MOMENT), goblins (GOBLYNNE), mystical eggs (THE PET SHOP BOYS) and ice hotels (LIGHTWORK), and dog messiahs (THE CHIHUAHUA MESSIAH), plus where God lives in 21 st century Britain!.

SAT 7 JAN 4.00PM

NEW SHORTS: LEFTFIELD & LUSCIOUS

An eye opening range of experiments from the more abstract areas of filmmaking. Including the LUX AWARD FOR BEST EXPERIMENTAL FILM.  An epic programme of 20 short films from inventive minds working in animation, documentary and abstract drama, including a screening of last year's HSFF Best Film award winner Jes Benstock: THE HOLOCAUST TOURIST - an experimental and powerful documentary look at the tourism industry that's grown up in Poland in the wake of Spielberg's "Schindler's List". Plus EU2020? by recent depict! winner Myriam Thyes, and an abstract look at Manchester city centre by the enfant terribles of visual projection, The Light Surgeons, titled IN PASSING.

SAT 7 JAN 6.00PM

NEW SHORTS: TRICK OF THE LIGHT

Gorgeous cinematography and oh-so-luvverly images in this stunningly beautiful selection. A schoolboy staring out from his playground across a distant field in FENCE; two children exploring the lines on their sleeping grandfather's face in QUICKEN; an animator dreaming her creation is alive in SINGLE BED; an Indian festival celebrated in MELA; and sunflares create mindtricks in INITIATION and SOLAR FLARES.

SAT 7 JAN 9.00PM

NEW SHORTS: FUCKED UP LOVE

Romance is alive and unwell. There's obsession in THE FRONT ROOM, internet dating in GUY 101, and the powerful end of the affair in TOGETHER ALONE and FEATHERS. Plus more unconventional relationships involving rabbits and lettuce in STALK, two kids finding love in SNORKELBOY, and a bizarre remake of an old 1970's John Travolta movie using Barbie dolls in THE BOY IN THE PLASTIC BUBBLE.

MON 9 JAN 5.20PM

ARTROCKER LIVE RADIO SHOW

To celebrate the launch night of the Artrocker exhibition live from the Curzon Mezzanine bar comes their weekly radio show on Resonance FM.

ARTROCKER EXHIBITION

Artrocker celebrate the underground live music scene (that steadily goes overground) in an exhibition of photography, graphics, posters and videos about the increasingly vibrant underground artrock music scene. Featuring Futureheads, Maximo Park, The Cribs, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Chalets, Les Georges Leningrad, Tom Vek, Clor, Interpol, Clor, Datsuns, Art Brut, Rogers Sisters and Black Keys, amongst many others.
