Club Mexicana (drinks are free…) for Everyman

The Everyman Cinema Club, Hampstead Village, London, are hosting an evening of Mexican culture on Thursday 13 April with acclaimed writer Guillermo Arriaga (21 Grams, Amores Perros) presenting his latest work, and London’s finest Mexican restaurant Mestizo serving free margaritas and Mexican tapas for all guests.

The Latino Tarantino will present his new novel ‘The Night Buffalo’ during a Q&A session at the Everyman’s ‘Club Mexicana’ night, followed by a screening of his latest award-winning film ‘The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada’.

Born in 1958, award-winning author, screenwriter and producer Guillermo Arriaga grew up in one of the most violent neighbourhoods in Mexico City. He lost his sense of smell at thirteen after being punched in the face too many times in brutal street fights that would later serve as inspiration for some of his best screenplays. ‘The Night Buffalo’ is a passionate love story set in Mexico City about a destructive ménage-a-trois between two male best friends and a girlfriend. Signed copies will be available on the night (Sceptre £7.99) supplied by one of London’s favourite independent book chains Daunt Books.

Winner of Cannes Festival 2005 Best Screenplay Award, Arriaga collaborates with Tommy Lee Jones to deliver an astonishingly perceptive exploration of social injustice set on the Mexican-US border in ‘The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada’. Jones plays a Texas rancher who kidnaps a border patrolman for killing his ranch hand and best friend Melquiades, an illegal immigrant. After forcing the patrolman to dig up the body, the two men and the corpse set out on a harsh, darkly comic journey to provide a proper burial in Melquiades’ native village.

Margaritas and traditional antojitos (Mexican tapas) will be served during the reception courtesy of Mestizo Restaurant and Tequila Bar. Situated at 103 Hampstead Road NW1, Mestizo is London’s only restaurant offering truly authentic Mexican cuisine prepared by native chefs together with over 70 types of tequila.

Club Mexicana takes place at 8pm on Thursday 13 April to include reception with free margaritas and Mexican tapas, a Q&A session with Guillermo Arriaga followed by a screening of ‘The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada’.

Tickets £15 – to book, please visit www.everymancinema.com or call the Box Office on 0870 066 4777.
