Welcome back to the 3rd Annual London International Animation Festival, the UK’s largest animated film festival, with over 200 films from all around the world. www.liaf.org.uk

Highlights:

International Programmes 1-7

The backbone of the LIAF mission - bringing you the very best, recently released international and British animation. Highlights this year include the amazing short film by Jan Svankmajer’s son, Vaclav, THE TORCHBEARER, the latest short from Henry Selick (director of THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS), MOONGIRL, and the best films scoured from other festivals including many London and UK premieres. British Panorama
The best of the most recently made British films: hot from the studios, from indie animators and animation-school graduates around the country. This year’s session includes the premiere of two brand-new music videos from the ever-popular Ninja Tunes stable.

The Korean Panorama
A wonderful collection of the best recently released Korean animated films. Working predominantly in drawn, puppets, 2D, 3D and Flash, the real charm and uniqueness of much Korean animation is its unusual narrative structures, a kind of ‘logic-but-with-a-twist’ approach to delivering a story.

Studio Focus – Nukufilm
This is the chance to drop in and visit a single studio that is doing great work. Nukufilm is without doubt one of the finest puppet film studios in the world and has virtually been so since it was established almost 50 years ago. Its work is unique and reflects the equally unique character of Estonia and its culture.

Digital Panorama

This year, LIAF’s Digital Panorama takes a broader view of the ever-evolving world of hi-res digital animation than in previous years. The programme still plays host to highly imaginative abstract digital animation but such films sit beside films obviously inspired by those immersed in the gaming animation community, works adapted from other media and digital art created for gallery spaces.

Abstract Panorama

Abstract animation will always be sprinkled throughout LIAF but for those who have wanted more and for those who are curious, this session provides a home for the best recently released abstract animation from all over the world.

Frederic Back Retrospective

Two-time Academy Award winner, Frederic Back is a Canadian master animator with few equals. Vibrant colouring and elegant artwork are visual hallmarks of his style. Back’s ability to capture, recreate and animate the very essence of a natural environment is uncanny.

Animated Documentaries
The unique properties of animation make it a powerful tool in the hands of a documentary maker. It can recreate what was missed by the camera, it can convey things that no camera can capture, it can soften a harsh message and it can bring layers of emotion and meaning to a documentary.

International student Animation Panorama

Two different screenings wrapping up the best animation from the world’s finest schools. More than 600 films were submitted from over 40 schools in nearly 20 countries. The student programmes are a chance to take a look into the imaginations of the next generation of animators.
