In the midst of World Cup fever, London’s Everyman Cinema Club offers an emotional, female-flavoured pitch with the screening of an Almodovar masterpiece together with Spanish wine and food tasting courtesy of Jeroboams on 13 June 2006.
Continuing this unique series of wine tasting/screening events with London’s Wine Merchant of the Year 2005, customers will sample a selection of fine Spanish wines and delicacies prior to watching Pedro Almodovar’s multi award-winning ‘All About My Mother’ which claimed both the BAFTA and Oscar® for Best Foreign Film in 2000.
The Don of Spanish cinema pays homage to the resilience of women and the intimate relationships they develop with others using his trademark style of irony and self-parody to offset this occasionally sombre story. Combining camp, compassion and high drama, the film’s colourful and sharply observed characters include a single mother, a pregnant HIV-positive nun, a transvestite prostitute, a lesbian actress and her heroin-addicted lover, with the male roles utterly peripheral or half female themselves. Starring Cecilia Roth, Penelope Cruz and Marisa Paredis, Almodovar delivers a rich, evocative piece with clarity, beauty and a constant ability to surprise and challenge the viewer.
Event attendees will benefit from a discount on their next Jeroboams order with optional home delivery service. Wine expert and Manager of Jeroboams’ Hampstead branch Alan MacDonald will host the tasting session and be available for questions.
‘Sexy Señoritas and Sangria’ starts at 8pm on Tuesday 13 June at the Everyman Cinema Club, Hampstead (diagonally opp Hampstead tube) to include an hour’s tasting of Spanish wines, cheeses and chorizos together with a screening of ‘All About My Mother’. Tickets £25 – to reserve your space, please visit www.everymancinema.com or call Reception on 0870 066 4777.
