How does contemporary cinema function as a catalyst for cultural
exchange - in its stories, production and aesthetics? The world is
poorly represented on British screens, but what is the impact of
non-western cinema in France and the UK? Holly Aylett (Vertigo) chairs a
discussion with Jean-Michel Frodon (Cahiers du Cinéma), director Mathieu
Amalric, cinema director Linda Pariser, and Nasreen Kabir (filmmaker,
writer on Indian cinema).

Film historian Ian Christie chairs a round table discussion on key
developments charted by the two magazines, Cahiers du Cinéma and
Vertigo. What role have these publications played in promoting a diverse
moving image culture? Discussion with Jean-Michel Frodon (Cahiers du
Cinéma), Holly Aylett (Vertigo), Emilie Bickerton (author of a
forthcoming article for New Left Review) and Jonathan Romney (critic).

What space is given to the work of experimental filmmakers in France and
the UK, and how does their work impact on mainstream cinema? Gareth
Evans (Vertigo) will chair a discussion with Emmanuel Burdeau (Cahiers
du Cinéma), Chris Darke (critic), and Iain Sinclair (director and
writer).
