Award-winning film director launches Frame by Frame with Stella Artois at QFT

Award-winning film director Perry Ogden visited the Queen's Film Theatre in Belfast on Thursday 19th January, to launch a new initiative for emerging film-makers called Frame by Frame with Stella Artois.

Ogden, whose first feature Pavee Lackeen is based around the travelling community in Dublin, has garnered several major awards at the London Film Festival and the Irish Film & TV Awards 2005. He hosted a directing workshop with 10 emerging film-makers and a screening and discussion with the general public, as part of the new Frame by Frame with Stella Artois initiative, which is supported by Arts and Business.

Five workshops with experts in a number of areas of the film industry will take place between January and May 2006, in advance of evening screenings of the filmmakers' work and a post-screening discussion. The visits will result in a DVD of the filmed discussions for use by film students and other emerging film makers.

Nicola Trainor, Stella Artois Brand Manager at InBev Ireland Limited, said:

“'Frame by Frame with Stella Artois' enables us, in partnership with Queen's Film Theatre, to contribute to improved film education and training in Northern Ireland. Whether it be designers, cinematographers, editors and producers – our intention is to provide access to the variety of skills employed in film making and to inspire the film-makers of the future.”

Frame by Frame with Stella Artois continues at 7.30pm on Sunday 29th January, with Belfast born film historian and documentarian Mark Cousins exploring documentary film classics from around the world, including extracts from the masterworks of the genre, from Cuba, India, Japan, Thailand and Russia. This event is being held in association with the Belfast Film Festival and will be preceded by a workshop entitled Approaches to Documentary Making, which will be hosted by Cousins and aimed at emerging film-makers.

QFT has a limited number of places available for emerging filmmakers to participate in the Frame by Frame with Stella Artois workshops. If you are an emerging film-maker, aged over 18 years, and would like to register for the Approaches to Documentary Making with Mark Cousins, please contact Eamon Quinn to register in advance - e.quinn@qub.ac.uk, tel. 90971355.
