Brenda Blethyn Opens School Cinema

Brenda Blethyn ( Secrets and Lies, Little Voice, Beyond the Sea ) made a return to her home county of Kent this month to officially open the new 48-seat art deco cinema at Sandwich Technology School in Sandwich.

The evening saw a host of local filmmakers, local dignitaries, teachers, pupils and parents attending a wine reception, with live musical entertainment from the pupils, and star pupil performers appearing in the shape of such Hollywood icons as Charlie Chaplin, Superman, and Judy Garland as Dorothy.

They were then treated to a special screening of work from local filmmakers and from the school's media students.

Miss Blethyn remained throughout the evening, more than happy to chat and sign autographs for the delighted ensemble.

Goodie bags were provided care of Close-Up Film and Odeon Cinemas.

The cinema has been funded by Creative Partnerships Kent, and is already proving an invaluable asset to the school, with screenings taking place across the school curriculum, and the instigation of a series of film clubs. A film festival looks set for the summer months.
