LEEDS FILM QUARTER WINTER 2006
- PROGRAMME AVAILABLE NOW
If sticking to you your New Year's Resolutions is proving more difficult than you thought, then take you mind of the Winter blues by going to see the wide-ranging amount of films available in the brand new programme from Leeds Film Quarter, covering January to March 2006, is now available.
The programme kicks off in January with a season of films from Masumura Yasuzo, with 'Kisses' on Monday 9th January and 'Giants and Toys' on Wednesday 11th January both at the Vue at the Light. Yasuzo is one of the true masters of the Japanese New Wave and, with a canon of films that cover subjects such as war, crime and eroticism, his work is a unique mix of Eastern and Western sensibilities.
Talking of unique, you'll also be glad to know that Psychotronic Cinema arrives in February. Presented by Cult! Film Distribution, this is a weird and wonderful ride into the world of transgressive cinema. From 'Blood For Dracula' to the rarely seen but much appreciated Spaghetti Western 'The Great Silence; this is a season of films plucked from the classic period of cult movies.
The Renault French Film Festival On Tour will visit Leeds allowing audiences to discover the very best films beyond those that normally find themselves in UK distribution. Highlights include 'Holy Lola' the latest directorial effort from Bertrand Tavernier and a mixture of fairy tale and high adventure in the enormously exciting 'Zaina: Rider of The Atlas'.
Finally, the LFQ specials provide a dazzling array of cinema including animate! on tour, a series of shorts that challenge the notions of conventional animation, two events curated by Lumen that showcase the work of artists - David Lamelas and Bruce McClure - who question the very nature of cinema itself and the chance to see such movies as Mad Hot Ballroom, Taxi Driver and Fahrenheit 451.
