The idea is good – although not the most original – and the cast look attractive. Unfortunately, it is a very mediocre movie. Keanu Reeves has a somewhat inflexible face and never looks as though he is enjoying his own life, let alone being with Winona Ryder, his co-star.
Siberia is a would be thriller which largely fails to thrill.
As the Pavlov of the film franchise gods rings his bell, the opportunity to ‘relight the Wick’ has been duly pounced on. It’s actually a welcome improvement to the sketchy original and offers the chance to serve up more of its treats and fewer of its slops.
Lots of things are exposed in this film. Unfortunately, none of them are in the investigative sense, where hard truths and realistic drama create a riveting whole.
The 1991 film Point Break, directed by Kathryn Bigelow, was so special that the whole movie and especially the performances of Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze remain in our memory. The remake, this time directed by Ericson Core, is a big disappointment.
