The Business is a good, traditional crime story of friendship between and up-and-coming Danny Dyer (Human Traffic, The Football Factory) and on-top-of-the-world crime man Tamer Hassan (Layer Cake). Arriving in Marbella South Spain in the 1980s with a bag full of cash for Charlie (Tamer Hassan), the glitz and money lures Frankie (Danny Dyer) into the underworld of crime. Soon, Frankie becomes Charlie's second in command.
Fuelled by money, women, and drugs, life at the top is sweet. But things turn sour when Frankie antagonises the psycho Sonny (Geoff Bell) when he gets involved with his girlfriend Carly (Georgina Chapman). Dreams turn vicious as loyalties shift; business spirals out of control and friendships are tested to breaking point.
Though the criminal archetypal story of man-should-not-delve-with-cocaine-or-trouble-will-befall as in Goodfellas and The Godfather has been told previously, The Business is an entertaining film with a romping 80s soundtrack. Tamer Hassan, Danny Dyer and Geoff Bell give electrifying performances.
Shot entirely on digital, this film looks great.
