Chicken Tikka Masala (15)

Dir. Harmage Singh Kalirai, 2005, UK, 90 mins

Cast: Chris Bisson, Saeed Jaffrey, Peter Ash, Sally Bankes, Zohra Segal

The Chopra family of Preston are busily arranging a traditional Indian wedding between their beloved only son, Jimi (Chris Besson), and Simran, an educated girl from a nice Gujerati family. All bodes well except for one minor detail - Jimi is in love with someone else, and that someone is a male called Jack (Peter Ash).

A series of comedic misconceptions go in Jimi's favour but he still has this father-to-be (Saeed Jaffrey) to contend with. Will the wedding go ahead?

Chicken Tikka Masala was shot in the North West of England by the independent Seven Spice Productions and is directed by Harmage Singh Kalirai, with screenplay by Roopesh Parekh. Well-received at film festivals around the world, it was nominated for a British Independent Film Award.

Besides being an entertaining comedy, the film deals with a host of social issues, ranging from ethnic identity to issues of sexual orientation, and what it means when all of these come together and clash.
