Fubar (Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition), is a mockumentary following the exploits of Terry (Dave Lawrence) and Dean (Paul Spence), two accident-prone headbangers from Alberta, Canada.
What begins as a light-hearted romp in the hands of "director" Farrell Mitchner (Gordon Skilling) skillfully turns into a profound examination of one's youth denial, acceptance and, finally, triumph over testicular cancer.
Fubar is music video director Michael Dowse's feature film directorial debut, and is largely based on an improvised script. The performances are honest and moving, and the film is able to bring a serious issue to the forefront in a manner that is not condescending, but instead pushes home the message that this disease can affect any man - even those who swig pilsner and do fart jokes.
Shot on video on a shoestring budget, this film also shows that you can make a decent movie with practically no money whatsoever.
