Review by Dave Smith
It's been two years since Larry Daley (Stiller) left his night guard job at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City , now a successful inventor and CEO of Daley's Devices, Larry's visits to the museum have become infrequent.
It is on one of his rare visits, he discovers that a number of the exhibits are to be packed off for permanent storage in the Federal Archives below the Smithsonian complex in Washington .
Larry is soon on the plane to Washington to help out his old friends after receiving a panicked phone call from Jedediah (Wilson) asking for help, as he and the other exhibits are under attack from an ancient Egyptian warrior named Kahmunrah (Azaria), who plans to take other the world.
Night at the Museum 2 is a bit of a disappointment, very slow to start, slightly long, and although still visually spectacular, has lost much of the charm and humour of the first film. The cast with the exception of Amy Adams, as Amelia Earhart, the love interest, seem very much to be just going through the motions.
Azaria as Kahmunrah didn't cut it as the baddie, and sounded very much like Stewie Griffin from Family Guy. On the plus side the Jonas brothers Cherubs, and the bobble-headed Einstein's did raise a smile.
While not the worst film ever made, it's a shame given the effects and cast on show that Night at the Museum 2 didn't hit greater heights.
